Philippine S&T Ministry, Women Commission, to hold forum on Gender and Poverty, Women Empowerment thru STI
The Department of Science and Technology (DOST), Philippine Commission on Women (PCW) and United Nations (UN) Women Philippines are organizing the forum titled “Mind the GAP (Gender and Poverty)”, which will be held both online and in-person, on March 22, 2024.
The Mind the GAP forum will feature science, technology, and innovation (STI)-based programs for the economic empowerment of women. This is a side event of the 68th Session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) which tackles gender equality, women empowerment, and poverty alleviation through women-specific and gender mainstreamed financing.
The relationship between women and poverty has been identified as the first critical area of concern at the 1995 Beijing Platform for Action. With this in mind, the forum has set the following objectives:
(1) to recognize and discuss that poverty is a human rights issue and present strategies to protect and fulfill the rights of poor women towards achieving gender equality and empowerment of women;
(2) to discuss current and future challenges and opportunities to promote gender equality; and
(3) to discuss various efforts and best practices to improve the economic participation of women.
