DOST-NCR Conducts Training on Nutrition Education Kit and Meal Planning

The DOST-National Capital Region, in partnership with the DOST-Food and Nutrition Research Institute (FNRI), conducted a webinar series on the Use of Nutrition Education Kit (NEK) and Meal Planning for the community health workers and school feeding coordinators in areas under the Community Empowerment thru Science and Technology (CEST) Program.

Under the project “Capacity Building Program for Community Health Workers in NCR CEST Areas on Abot Kaalaman at Kabuhayan (AKAY) sa Nutrisyon”, the DOST-NCR allocated funds for the Meal Planning training and deployment of NEK to 27 communities in Metro Manila.

The Meal Planning module is aimed at capacitating health workers and school feeding coordinators to provide nutrition education, present livelihood opportunities and raise awareness on the importance of healthy eating, good nutrition, and food safety.

On the other hand, the DOST-FNRI-developed NEK is composed of nutrition games, story books, and comics which were custom-fit for CEST communities. After the webinar series, a total of 80 kits will be distributed to the health workers and school feeding coordinators.

DOST-FNRI Chief Science Research Specialist Dr. Milflor S. Gonzales, Supervising Science Research Specialist Ms. Idelia G. Glorioso, and Science Research Specialist Ms. Shannen Faye Q.
