DOST-NCR Secures Top Spot in LRSM Scientific Poster Contest

“Science, technology, and innovation would be the agents for transformative change,” expressed by DOST Secretary Dr. Renato U. Solidum, Jr. during the 2023 Luzon Regional Scientific Meeting on May 17-18 at the Orchard Hotel, Baguio City. Highlighting the event was the annual Scientific Poster Competition wherein the DOST- National Capital Region’s scientific poster entry titled, “Using Genomics to Profile Antimicrobial Resistance and Virulence Genes of Salmonella enterica in Poultry and Swine Food Chains in Metro Manila, Philippines” clinched this year’s Championship title.

Said scientific poster was comprehensively authored by researchers from the Institute of Biology, University of the Philippines-Diliman College of Science and presented during the Launching of the Scientific Poster Session, which featured the latest regional research outputs of participating higher education institutions (HEIs), research centers, and government agencies in Luzon area.

This year’s Luzon Regional Scientific Meeting is the last leg of the National Academy of Science and Technology, Philippines (NAST PHL)-organized scientific meetings across the country. Anchored on the theme, “Agham at Teknolohiya para sa Demokrasya (Science and Technology for Democracy),” the LRSM focused on the role of science and technology in catalyzing various scientific and technological advancements towards a developmental empowerment of democratic institutions and processes.

Furthermore, the scientific meeting served as an avenue to discuss the role of science and technology in achieving greater inclusion and welfare, tackle relevant and timely regional concerns, and present S&T-based recommendations for policy making.

S&T-driven recommendations and resolutions crafted from the Luzon RSM will be compiled and presented during the 45th Annual Scientific Meeting of NAST PHL, which will be held on July 12-13, 2023.

This year’s RSM was joined by DOST Regional Offices, its academic institution partners, Local Government Units, and Regional Line Government Agencies in the Luzon Cluster which include Regions CAR I, II, III, CALABARZON, MIMAROPA, and NCR.

Secretary Solidum, DOST Undersecretary for Regional Operations Engr. Sancho A. Mabborang, NAST-PHL President Acad. Jaime C. Montoya, NAST Director Luningning-Samarita Domingo, and National Scientist Dr. Raul V. Fabella graced the event.
