DOST-NCR, PIDS Conduct Training on Development Policy Research
The Department of Science and Technology-National Capital Region (DOST-NCR), in partnership with the government research agency Philippine Institute for Development Studies, (PIDS), conducted a two-day virtual training on Development Policy Research on September 28-29, 2021.
With the theme, “From Innovation to Policy Implementation”, the event aimed to inspire participants and recognize their critical roles in nation building as employees in a science and technology office.
DOST-NCR recognizes that research outputs need to be grounded on factual data and information to garner much needed policy support. Several speakers in the webinar thus talked about the importance of a continuing research and development, advocacy, and campaign for evidence-based decision making in the science community.
Researchers, policy makers, and development workers who have captured messages on how innovations can be further translated into policies attended the training. Participants were also provided an overview of policy-driven research, lectures on designing policy research with detailed methodology, processes, and analysis, measuring the socio-economic relevance of policy research, developing policy research towards strategic recovery, and practical approaches on how to get scientific outputs to be used as information for data-driven and evidence-based decision-making.
The two-day activity featured guest speakers from the PIDS, Development Academy of the Philippines (DAP), National Research Council of the Philippines (NRCP), and University of the Philippines Los Banos (UPLB) College of Public Affairs and Development.
