DOST-NCR Distributes Urban Gardening Kits for “Gulayan sa Paaralan” in Bangkulasi, Navotas
Communities in Metro Manila enrolled to the Department of Science and Technology – National Capital Region (DOST-NCR) Community Empowerment thru Science and Technology (CEST) Program received urban gardening kits to put up their own community gardens. This initiative, which started at the height of the pandemic in 2020, aims to ensure food security and provide livelihood opportunity to locals in these communities during the lockdown period.
The DOST-NCR provided a total of 400 Enriched Potting Preparation (EPP) kits and 30 SNAP hydroponics in support to the local Gulayan sa Paaralan, Tahanan, at Pamayanan Program of Bangkulasi, Navotas. This was culminated during the Turn-Over Ceremony conducted in the barangay on March 24, 2022.
The Gulayan sa Paaralan, Tahanan at Pamayanan Program is aimed at addressing malnutrition and promoting vegetable production and consumption, promoting local gardening for food security, and recognizing collective partnerships with national line agencies. This program is an offshoot of the Gulayan sa Pamayanan Program of the DOST Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development (PCAARRD) being implemented in Metro Manila by the DOST-NCR.
A total of 20 parents and 12 faculty members from Bangkulasi Senior High School and Angeles National High School were provided with the urban gardening kits.
