The Department of Science and Technology-National Capital Region conducted two digital technology contests to showcase science, technology, and innovations on the ground, as part of the 2021 National Science and Technology Week Celebration in the National Capital Region. Titled “CLICK! #CESTinAction: Showcasing Science, Technology, and Innovation through Mobile Photography Contest” on November 15, and “S&T Young Influencer: Social Media Content Competition” on November 16, these contests were participated by community members, and students, respectively.
For the CLICK! #CESTInAction photography contest, entry from Brgy. 846, Manila garnered the People’s Choice Award, while entries from Brgy. Pasolo, Valenzuela City, Brgy. Tanza 1, Navotas City, and Brgy. Balangkas, Valenzuela City landed at 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places, respectively.
The event aimed to feature stories of science, technology, and innovation in action through the eyes of our community members. It also highlighted the various S&T interventions on livelihood, health, environment, education, and disaster risk reduction, which were adopted by the communities under the Community Empowerment through Science and Technology (CEST) Program in Metro Manila.
Meanwhile, the DOST-NCR received a total of 106 entries from Grade 7 to Grade 12 students from both public and private schools in Metro Manila for the S&T Young Influencer Social Media Content Competition. Through the social application called “Tiktok”, participants featured the significant contributions of science and technology to areas in Kabuhayan, Kaayusan and Kalusugan via a short video aligned with the NSTW’s theme “Agham at Teknolohiya: Tugon sa Hamon ng Panahon”.
Both competitions aimed to enhance the students’ talents and skills by channeling creative ideas and innovative ways to promote science and technology using the modern digital platforms and social applications.
