Bakery Goes Mobile; DOST-NCR, Mission Alliance Upgrade Community’s Baking Operations
“Hindi na po kami maglalakad sa paglalako,” said Lilian TigLao, a member of the North Homeowners Association Inc. (NHOAI) as DOST-NCR, through its PAMAMAZON Clustered Area Science and Technology Office (CASTO), turned over two (2) units of the DOST-NCR-designed Mobile Bakery Cart to community groups in Manila on 07 February 2023.
Funded by Mission Alliance Philippines, and in collaboration with the Kapatiran Kaunlaran Foundation Inc. (KKFI), the NHOAI and Samahan ng Maralita sa Temporary Housing (SMTH) received two (2) units of the Mobile Bakery Cart designed and developed by the DOST-NCR PAMAMAZON CASTO and Food Safety Team. This initiative seeks to yield significant production improvements, enhance food safety, and promote operation sustainability by selling their products while being while on the move within the community.
Moreover, the community groups received a series of training on Basic Food Hygiene following the training on Bread and Pastry, and Product Costing conducted in 2022.
In 2018, DOST-NCR assisted the KKFI partner communities through the project “Improving the Production Operations of Kapatiran Kaunlaran Foundation Inc. Daily Bread Bakery” and provided baking equipment, technical training, and capacity building activities. Alternative Learning System (ALS) students and KKFI scholars are also given financial support by helping in the community bakery.
