DOST-NCR Helps Women OFWs and Families Venture into Technology-Based  Business through iFWD PH Program

A new chapter of hope and opportunity unfolds for women Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) as the Department of Science and Technology – National Capital Region (DOST-NCR) strengthens its commitment to empowering them through enterprise development. In celebration of Women’s Month, DOST-NCR joined the City Government of Muntinlupa in its livelihood training and family development support program, held on March 14, 2025, at the Alabang Central Market in the City of Muntinlupa. The initiative aims to equip women OFWs with valuable skills and knowledge to establish their own technology-based enterprises in the country.

The Innovation for Filipinos Working Distantly from the Philippines (iFWD PH) Program is a flagship initiative of DOST designed to support returning and current OFWs in their reintegration into the country through entrepreneurship. The program provides a comprehensive framework that includes capacity building, innovation funding, and business development assistance. By leveraging science, technology, and innovation (STI)-driven solutions, iFWD PH helps OFWs create sustainable technology-based startups and enterprises, transforming their experiences and resources from working abroad into viable business opportunities at home.

Through a strategic partnership with the Muntinlupa Public Employment Service Office (PESO) and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), DOST-NCR’s MUNTAPARLAS Clustered Area Science and Technology Office (CASTO) and Program Management Team facilitated an orientation on iFWD PH. A total of 33 women OFWs and their families participated in the activity, where they gained insights into the various STI support programs offered by DOST-NCR to help them transition into technopreneurship.

By fostering enterprise development, the iFWD PH Program not only aids returning and current OFWs in their sustainable reintegration into the country but also contributes to economic growth by encouraging innovation and entrepreneurship among Filipino women. DOST-NCR continues to play a pivotal role in advancing inclusive economic opportunities through science and technology-driven interventions, reaffirming its dedication to empowering communities and fostering sustainable development.
