Packed inside a container called “Go-Bag”, the employees of
DOST-NCR were equipped with survival tools in case a disaster occurs prompted
by its ever-dynamic Regional Director, Jose B. Patalinjug III. In the morning,
the office conducted an orientation about its content and functions. A total of
65 packs fully armed with at least 140 plus emergency items were distributed on
Monday Afternoon, January 6, 2020.
In line with the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030 under “Goal 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities”, the bag is expected to aid the person affected with a disaster even without any forms of rescue in the next 72 hours. Each bag contains a basic first aid kit, emergency tools, communication aids, hygiene kit, an emergency rope to tie essential necessities, a thermal blanket, a document keeper, and an emergency helmet to protect the head from falling debris. The bag must be placed within the employee’s individual cubicle for a quicker utilization.
The staff were also briefed by DOST-NCR DRRM team to check
the food and water reserve inside the bag and to regularly replenish these
items to ensure food safety. This
initiative is just one among many disaster preparedness advocacy of the office
that promotes a holistic disaster risk reduction management at all levels.
