What is MMIERDC?
The Metropolitan Manila Industry and Energy Research & Development Consortium (MMIERDC) is a collaborative network among government agencies, private institutions, industry associations, and academic institutions. The MMIERDC accepts R&D proposals for funding in the areas indicated at the Harmonized National R&D Agenda.

The Consortium is represented by individuals from member institution with expertise in energy, food, environment, and ICT particularly in disciplines such as engineering and sciences. It also has members with expertise in the fields of social and health sciences and economics.

Majority of the members are undertaking researches in areas of renewable energy, energy efficiency, industrial controls and software, electronics, materials for construction, food technology, waste management, environment and natural resources concerns such as climate change, rehabilitation, technology transfer and extension, and disaster mitigation.

Other members have researches dealing with educational research, education policies, academe and industry linkages.

History:
The Metropolitan Manila Industry and Energy Research and Development Consortium (MMIERDC) was conceptualized in August 29, 2006 through the efforts of Dr. Teresita C. Fortuna, then DOST-NCR Regional Director, and Engr. Raul C. Sabularse, then PCIEERD Deputy Director. Finally, on November 22, 2006, the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) was forged together with partner institutions and member agencies composed of 6 government agencies, 5 private institutions, and 4 academic organizations. MMIERDC is a Metro Manila based consortium which will gather concerned agencies in the industry and energy sectors in an area which is considered to be diverse in terms of resource and capabilities. To date the MMIERDC has 37 members

Objectives
  ·Promote efficiency in research activities through possible sharing of resources of participating schools/institutions e.g. manpower skills, equipment, facilities, or even funding support
  ·Avoid duplication of efforts of common R&D activities and create opportunity for interaction among researchers in schools and the sectors concerned
  ·Create a mechanism for proper coordination, programming, development, and utilization of resources for related R&D works
  ·Foster interagency collaboration and participation of local government and private sector in industry and energy R&D activities
  ·Promote adoption and utilization of R&D output
  ·Develop an industry sector in NCR to become globally competitive
  ·Formulate an R&D Agenda for sectors that will be identified by the consortium
  ·Generate funding to conduct R&D activities

Functions
  ·Formulate the policies and guidelines related to the operation and implementation of activities of the consortium
  ·Plan and formulate integrated programs and projects relating to industry and energy for the social, economic and environmental stability of the region
  ·Develop strategies to generate funds to support the integrated regional R&D program, manpower enhancement activities and other collaborative activities
  ·Recommend research projects/programs to funding agencies through PCIERD
  ·Formulate and execute institutional mechanism to promote the consortium its functions
  ·Strengthen linkages with other sectors and regions
  ·Confirm all appointments and memberships applications to the consortium
