We are living in exciting times given the speed by which new technologies and scientific breakthroughs are coming out. Aside from those S & T news coming out in national dailies, a lot more developments are happening in the regions that are not getting the exposure that they deserve. Many of these scientific studies and locally-made technologies came out of specific regional needs, which make their dissemination to the public even more critical.

Recognizing the pivotal role of the publishers in getting S & T news to the people, DOST-NCR signed a partnership with the Publishers Association of the Philippines, Inc. (PAPI) to further strengthen the collaboration between the two parties.

The signing of the Memorandum of Agreement between DOST-NCR and PAPI was held last December 4, 2018 during PAPI’s National Press Congress at the Bayleaf Hotel in Intramuros, Manila. Present at the event were DOST Secretary Fortunato T. Dela Peña, DOST-NCR Regional Director Jose B. Patalinjug III, and PAPI National President Mr. Nelson Santos.

Secretary de la Peña's keynote message highlighted the Congress theme’s clear message on how science and technology work as prime movers towards inclusive growth and national development. The Secretary also acknowledged the critical role of the media in disseminating the information to the people. For his part, RD Patalinjug stressed the value of DOST’s partnership with PAPI, which he said will hopefully bridge the gap in their efforts in bringing science, technology, and innovation closer to the people.

DOST-NCR Supervising Science Research Specialist Engr. Romelen Tresvalles presented DOST-NCR's programs and services right after the short press conference and the MOU signing.

The National Press Congress is held in accordance to Presidential Proclamation 1187, declaring December of every year as the Month of the Community Press in the Service of the Nation, and designated PAPI as the lead agency in its observance. The 23rd National Press Congress was held in collaboration with the DOST-NCR.
