DOST, Nehemiah Gabros Partnership Promotes Innovation for Health and Wellness Industry

The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) continues to seek ways to provide support to MSMEs, especially in product development, in line with the Department’s main thrust of “Providing Solutions, Opening Opportunities.”   

Last May 10, 2024, DOST-National Capital Region (DOST-NCR) and DOST-Industrial Technology and Development Institute (DOST-ITDI) signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with new private sector partner Nehemiah Gabros OPC at the Modular Multi-Industry Innovation Center (MMIC), in an example of a successful partnership among government agencies, academe, and the private sector. This collaboration was made possible by Science and Technology (S&T) fellow, Mr. Danilo Barcelon from MMIC ITDI, who shall refine product formulation and promotes the development of herbal tablets from locally sourced organic powders.   

DOST-NCR Regional Director Engr. Romelen T. Tresvalles, and DOST-ITDI Director Dr. Annabelle Briones spearheaded the signing of the MOA with Mr. Jemuel Gabuna, President and CEO of Nehemiah Gabros, OPC. Other signatories were Dr. Christine Marie C. Montesa, Deputy Director for Research and Development of DOST-ITDI, Mr. Bobby Crisostomo, Consultant at Nehemiah Gabros, OPC, and Mr. Oscar B. Sevilla Jr., Officer-In-Charge of DOST NCR’s PAMAMARISAN (Pasig, Mandaluyong, Marikina, San Juan) Clustered Area Science and Technology Office (CASTO).  

As part of the commitment of DOST-NCR and DOST-ITDI partnership, various services like technical support were offered to Nehemiah to further enhance the quality and marketability of the develop product.  

As Mr. Gabuna made a personal testimony about his journey in pursuing his current aspirations in the health and wellness industry, DOST officials vowed to continue to assist MSMEs on research and development, and commercialization of DOST-developed technologies to address regional demands, as well as to help innovative technopreneurs like Mr. Gabuna.
