DOST-NCR Conducts IP CAMP, Expands SETUP Program with Intellectual Property Support for MSMEs 

The Department of Science and Technology – National Capital Region (DOST-NCR) has expanded its technical assistance under the Small Enterprise Technology Upgrading Program (SETUP) to include comprehensive intellectual property (IP) support for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). This move aims to enhance the competitiveness and innovation capacity of MSMEs by providing them with the necessary tools and knowledge to protect their intellectual properties.   

As an initial activity, the DOST-NCR conducted an Intellectual Property Consultation Awareness Masterclass Program (IP CAMP) for its SETUP beneficiaries last 17 July 2024 at the Miriam College Henry Sy Sr. Innovation Center in Quezon City.  

The IP Camp had as resource speakers Ms. Emmelina C. Mansaque, Engr. Aldrex Aviso, and Mr. Michael Junsay from the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines. The speakers shared their extensive expertise on how to protect intellectual property rights, including patents, utility models, industrial designs, trademarks, copyrights, and trade secrets. Their insights offered invaluable guidance to MSMEs on effectively safeguarding and managing their intellectual property assets to ensure that their innovations and creations are legally protected and commercially viable.  

The IP CAMP is part of DOST-NCR’s broader strategy to foster a culture of innovation and technological advancement among MSMEs. By integrating IP support into SETUP, DOST-NCR aims to help MSMEs safeguard their creative works, enhance their market competitiveness, and drive sustainable business growth. This initiative also underscores the crucial role of intellectual property in the growth and development of MSMEs, ensuring that they can fully leverage their innovations and maintain a competitive edge in the market.
