Call for Stronger Science-Driven SDG Solutionsas Luzon Opens 2026 Regional Scientific Meetings
The National Academy of Science and Technology, Philippines (NAST PHL), in partnership with the Department of Science and Technology Regional Offices (Luzon Cluster), will hold the 2026 Luzon Regional Scientific Meeting (RSM) on 7-8 April 2026 in Alabang, Muntinlupa City, Metro Manila. The event will also be streamed live via Zoom and Facebook to ensure broader public engagement.
Anchored on the theme, “UN SDGs: Science, Technology, and Innovation for Sustainable Development,” the Luzon RSM serves as a key preparatory activity for the 48th Annual Scientific Meeting (ASM) of NAST PHL scheduled on 8-9 July 2026 in Metro Manila.
The regional meeting will gather leading scientists, researchers, policymakers, industry representatives, and other stakeholders to assess Luzon’s progress toward achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It will also serve as a platform to identify science- and technology-based solutions, research priorities, and policy recommendations to accelerate sustainable development in the country.
Hosted by the Engineering Sciences and Technology Division (ESTD) and the Mathematical and Physical Sciences Division (MPSD) of NAST PHL and the Department of Science and Technology – National Capital Region (DOST-NCR), the Luzon RSM will feature plenary sessions and focused discussions on key strategic areas, including:
- Current Status of the Sustainable Development Goals in Luzon
- Passive Cooling Strategies for Sustainable Development
- Pathways to a Net-Zero Emission Strategy for the Philippines
- Bioplastics Industry Roadmap and Urban Waste Management
- Artificial Intelligence for Climate and Disaster Risk Prediction
These discussions aim to highlight innovative, cost-effective, and scalable interventions that address pressing environmental, economic, and social challenges.
The event will also feature a scientific poster session highlighting research and development initiatives from various individuals and institutions in Luzon that contribute to sustainable development and innovation.
Insights and policy recommendations generated during the Luzon RSM will be forwarded to the relevant agencies for consideration, serving as valuable inputs to support evidence-based decision-making, guide future programs, and strengthen science, technology, and innovation initiatives across the region.
